ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the status and trend of low vision of junior and senior high school students in Beijing from 2009 to 2018, and to provide evidence for myopia prevention.@*Methods@#Data came from the results of physical examination of eyesight in 2009-2018 in Beijing, which were cdlected among juncor and senior high school students in March every year. Detection rate of low vision of students and the difference across different districts and counties were analyzed.@*Results@#From 2009 to 2018, the rate of low vision of high school and college entrance examination students in Beijing was on the rise, with the average rate of low vision of 86.07% and 76.36% respectively. Similar trend was found in the rate of high myopia(16.39% and 18.64%,respectively), while that of light and medium myopia tends to be stable. The highest rate of low vision among junior middle school students was in Xicheng (84.75%) District and Chaoyang District (84.03%), and for high middle school students, the highest rate of myopia was found in Fengtai District (91.17%) and Dongcheng District (89.92%).@*Conclusion@#In Beijing, the detection rate of low vision of middle school and college entrance examination students increased steadily, especially the high myopia. The health education of eyesight protection is of great significance to students. It is necessary to strengthen the extensive intervention of eyesight protection in middle and college entrance examination students.

ABSTRACT

A total of 192 patients with sepsis were tested by Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) for a preliminary diagnosis of whether or not there was sepsis associated encephalopathy (SAE) according to their test results.SAE was diagnosed or excluded after consultations and comprehensive analysis on the basis of clinical manifestations and auxiliary examination results. The scores of the patients in this group were (25.7 ± 3.3) points. The sensitivity of MoCA for screening SAE was 0.776 and its specificity 0.963.The rate of diagnostic coincidence between MoCA and comprehensive analysis for SAE was 0.880.The diagnostic concordance between two diagnostic methods of SAE was excellent (kappa value =0.753 ± 0.048,P =0.000).The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of MoCA for screening SAE was 0.929 ± 0.019 (P =0.000) ; the optimal cutoff value was 25.5 points; and its sensitivity was 0.779 and specificity 0.962.And negative correlations existed between score of MoCA and age, disease course and co-existing shock or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (P < 0.05).

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the screening effects between Wells and revised Geneva scores on suspected acute pulmonary thromboembolism (APTE),and to explore a optimum screening method for APTE in the emergency department of China. Methods The study was carried out by using random, crossed, prospective methods to compare the screening effects between Wells and revised Geneva scores for 167 suspected APTE patients in the emergency department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University. Results The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of Wells and revised Geneva scores for screening APTE in the emergency department were (0.917 ± 0.022 ) and (0.927 ± 0.020),respectively ( P < 0.05 ).The diagnostic concordance between the two score systems for predicting APTE was poor (Kappa value =0.276 ). In addition, the difference between their hierarchical discrimination for the possibility of APTE was statistically significant ( P < 0.05 ).Compared with revised Geneva score, fewer patients were diagnosed with low clinical probability of APTE and more patients were diagnosed with intermediate or high clinical probability of APTE through Wells score. The patients with low chnical probability of APTE were excluded from pulmonary embolism in Wells or revised Geneva score. At intermediate clinical probability, the accuracy rate of Wells score for predicting APTE (9.64%) was lower than that (32.84% ) of revised Geneva ( P < 0.05 ).At high clinical probability, there was no significant difference between their accuracy rate [ (67.24% vs.86.21%),P>0.05]. Conclusions Revised Geneva score is more suitable than Wells score in screening suspected APTE patients in the emergency department in our country.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To discuss the clinical experience of diagnosing and managing of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea.@*METHOD@#Twenty-four cases of cerebrospinal rhinorrhea were analysed retrospectively from Jan 2003 to Sept 2008, among which 18 cases from department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and 6 cases from Neurosurgery.@*RESULT@#Postoperative follow-up lasted from 4 months to 72 months. All the cases were successfully cured, among which 6 cases with conservative treatment and 18 cases under surgery, and no relapse case was found. The 18 cases under surgery included endoscopic approach (12 cases), extra-nasal approach (4 cases), transnasal approach under microscope (2 cases).@*CONCLUSION@#It is not only minimally invasive, safety and efficiency of transnasal endoscopic technique for CSF leaks, but also without facial scarring after operation. Transnasal endoscopic approach can be preferred for the closure of uncomplicated CSF leak, located at the cribriform plate or the sphenoid sinus. The extra-nasal or intracranial approach may be an attractive option for more complicated and large CSF leak, or the leak site is not easily found with endoscopic.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the etiology of paranasal sinus fungus ball and evaluate the curative effect of endoscopic sinus surgery on paranasal sinus fungus ball.@*METHOD@#The clinical and follow-up data of 55 patients with paranasal sinus fungus ball were retrospectively analyzed.@*RESULT@#All patients were cured by endoscopic sinus surgery, no complications were observed. Following up for 6-48 months, two cases were recurred.@*CONCLUSION@#Anatomic abnormalities of the paranasal sinuses and wound in the mucosa are the main pathogenesis of paranasal sinus fungus ball. Endoscopic sinus surgery is an effective treatment of paranasal sinus fungus ball. Relapse rate is related with regular irrigation after operation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the expression of Eotaxin and Eotaxin-2 in nasal polyposis and nasal polyp and explore the different mechanism between polyposis and polyp.@*METHOD@#Fifteen cases of nasal polyposis, thirteen cases of polyp and eight cases of normal middle turbinate were studied with immunohistochemical SP method to detect the expression of Eotaxin and Eotaxin-2.@*RESULT@#There were significant differences between either two groups about the expression of Eotaxin-2 (P 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Both of Eotaxin and Eotaxin-2 likely play key roles in the inflammatory reaction process of nasal polyposis and polyp. The different expression of Eotaxin-2 between nasal polyposis and polyp demonstrates it may be one of the main causes in the different mechanism of the two diseases.

ABSTRACT

A field study on 24 weigbt--lifters and an experiment on rats imitating kuman acute food restrictionwere done in order to find out the metabolism of water and electrolytes during the acute weight-reductionperiod and the effect of appropriate supplementation. The results showed that food restriction caused very significant loss of the water and electrolytes withsigns of muscle cramp, dehydration, ketonuria etc. The experimental results in rats were observed duringfood restriction as following: 1. Serum potham and sodium decreased and the serum chloride and magnesium increased significantly. 2. Potassium and sodium contents of cardiac muscle were significantly lower than those of the control group, but potassium content of skeletal muscles was higber. 3. Blood lactic acid (3 minutes after running on a treadmill for half an hour ) was higber than thatbefote food restriction. Supplementation of appropriate minerals is beneficial to correct the above changes and keep the athletesfit and in good form.
